The post about the Peugeot support vehicle for Eddie Merckx brought to mind something I saw a while ago. On the 70's Molteni team, Eddy Merckx's support vehicle was a Volvo 240 series. It was also the idea of a 240 restoration highlighted in the January 2006 edition of Bicycling magazine. Click on the last image and expand to read the captured pages. Now that is some interesting vintage racing.

Watch the documentary movie "A sunday in hell". It was from 1976 and you see Merckx competing in the paris-roubaix race with that Volvo bouncing all over the place in support-bikes piled high on top. It's readily available from several dubious sources. It's worth the watch if you like sports drama documentaries. I felt dirty and ready for a shower after watching it, like I had been there watching in the hot dust.
